Ascension Gameplay
Ascension is a turn-based card game where 2 to 4 players build their decks while playing. Each player starts with a small deck of 10 basic cards: 8 Apprentices (to gain runes) and 2 Militia (to gain power). Runes are used to buy new cards, and power is used to defeat monsters. In the middle of the table, there’s a center row with six cards. So, these can be Heroes, Constructs, or Monsters. On your turn, you draw 5 cards from your deck and use them to buy new cards or defeat monsters. When you buy a card, it goes into your discard pile and will be used in future turns.
Heroes and Constructs make your deck stronger. However, constructs stay in play and help you every turn. Defeating monsters gives you Honor Points and rewards. In addition, after each turn, used cards go to your discard pile. When your deck is empty, you shuffle the discard pile to form a new deck. The game continues until the Honor Point pool runs out. However, the player with the most Honor Points at the end wins. The game is fast, fun, and different each time because the center row keeps changing. It is a great mix of luck, skill, and planning.
